Kenneth Anderson Setzer

Kenneth Anderson Setzer, 77 of Franklin, NC, passed away unexpectedly, Sunday, September 8, 2024.

He was born in Haywood County, NC September 2, 1947, to the late Willard Rufus and Zenia Mae Setzer.

After graduating from Sylva-Webster High School in Sylva, NC, Ken was drafted into the U.S. Army on July 7, 1969, serving in the Vietnam War as Private Second Class (PV2). He was in the 444th Transport Company, Vietnam Company A, 3rd Bn, 4th C St Bde. He was discharged honorably with National Defense Service Medal and Vietnam Service medal with bronze service star.

After he was discharged, Ken was a residential builder and cross-country truck driver, before retiring with an impairment caused by agent orange disease.

He was a man who sincerely loved his family and did what he could to help those around him as much as possible.

In addition to his parents, Ken was preceded in death by a son Christopher Setzer. 

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Sharon Setzer; two sons, Brian Setzer (Melissa) and Barry Setzer (June) both of Franklin, NC; seven grandchildren, Dylan Setzer, Kaylee Setzer, Brantley Setzer, Blake Setzer, Breanna Cross, Britney Cross, and Wesley Rodgers; one sister, Doris Setzer Rogers (Jim) of Hendersonville, NC; two brothers, Ronnie Setzer (Brenda) of Sylva, NC and Lee Setzer (Rhonda) of Ervin, TN; along with many nieces, nephews, and his fur baby Peanut. 

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, September 15, 2024, in the Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home with the Rev. Eddie Stillwell officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Nations Cemetery in Jackson, Co. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post 108 and VFW Post 7339.
