Kelly Lisa Duncan

Kelly Lisa Bisner Duncan, daughter of Edward and Joyce Castleberry Bisner, was born on August 26, 1963, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where she was raised alongside her sister, Kim. On November 4, 2024, Kelly passed away at home in Glenville, North Carolina, following complications from type 1 diabetes and heart disease.

She is survived by her aunt Dr. Barbara Carlton and cousins Will Carlton, Pat Carlton, Charlie Carlton, Julie Carlton McClelland, Ann Williamson, Lynn Westbrook, Richard Merritt, John Merritt, Carol Moore, and Jimmy Castleberry as well as her former husband Logan Duncan. Though she spent most of her life in Florida, Kelly moved to Glenville in 2018, returning to the mountains she had come to love as a child during summers spent with her Carlton cousins and her aunt and uncle.

Kelly’s heart was expansive, and her true calling was animal care. She dedicated countless hours and resources to rescuing and rehabilitating abandoned, abused, and unwanted animals, especially dogs. For her, these animals were family, and she worked tirelessly to ensure each one found a safe, loving home. Friends and family knew Kelly as a generous and hard-working woman, always quick to lend a hand to animals and people alike. She possessed a wicked sense of humor and found a way to laugh despite life being difficult.

Kelly’s memory lives on in the hearts of those who loved her and the animals she cared for so deeply. In lieu of flowers, her family encourages donations to the Cashiers Highlands Humane Society, a pet rescue organization of your choice, or to the American Diabetes Association.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Albert Carlton Cashiers Community Library on December 4, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to celebrate the life of a woman whose kindness and love left an indelible mark on the world around her.
