Kay W. Broome, age 76, of Sylva passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at a local hospital. Kay was born July 8, 1940 in Jackson Co., NC. He is the son of the late Otis Broome and the late Laurena (Mathis) Shelton. He is married to his wife of 48 years Hilda Broome. Kay served his country for 13 and a half years in the United States Navy where he did three tours during the Vietnam War. He loved boating and spending time on Lake Chatuge, watching golf and riding around the golf cart with his grandchildren. Kay was a devoted family man and loved spending as much time as he could with them.
In addition to his wife Hilda he survived by one daughter Debbie Broome Cloer and husband Deuane of Franklin; one son Keith Broom and wife Laura of Crestview, FL; eight grandchildren Ashely Hall, Amanda Broome, Brett Hall, Logan Hall, Bailey Cloer, Owen Broome, Will Hall and Kensley Hall; two sisters Virginia Nations and Rosemary Bates; one brother Nathan Broom.
He is preceded in death by two brothers Carlos and Dave Broom and one sister Gladys Dillard.
Funeral Services will be held Sunday, October 23, 2016 at 3:00 pm in the chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services with Rev. Doug Rowe, Rev. Cecil Saunders, Rev. Greg Rogers and Rev. Jason Buchanan officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be at Locust Field Baptist Church Cemetery.
