Karen M. “Cookie” Hermes, age 76, of Pensacola, FL went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 6, 2018. She was the wife of the late Richard Hermes and the daughter of the late Edward Ruppel and the late Marjorie Hanke.
She was of the Catholic faith. She was a retired campground hostess. She was also retired from the K-Mart Corporation and as a long-distance truck driver. Karen loved quilting, knitting and crocheting, especially for the homeless. She dearly loved her family.
In addition to her husband and her parents, she was also preceded in death by one brother; Richard Ruppel.
Karen is survived by two sons; Alan (Kristi) Hermes of Sylva, NC and David (Kim) Hermes of Bryson City, NC. She is also survived by three granddaughters; Jessica Hermes, Victoria Woodel and Kyndall Cochran, one grandson Chase (Kendra) Cochran, two sisters; Lori Hicks and Kathy Herman and one brother; Gerald Ruppel of Sheboygan, WI.
A memorial service will be held later at Appalachian Funeral Services. Details will be published as they become available.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Karen’s name to Appalachian Funeral Services 165 Skyland Dr. Sylva, NC 28779.
