Julius Dowdle Coward, 72, of the Norton Community passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, August 12th.
A native of Jackson County, he was the son of the late Rogers Zachary Coward and Gladys Dowdle Coward of Webster. He was preceded in death by three sisters; June, Linda, and Gloria. He is survived by one brother, Dale (Bobbie) Coward of the Norton Community.
Julius graduated from NC State University in 1966 with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. He began his career with the aerospace industry in Seattle, WA and Cherry Point, NC. He later became employed with the Con-Met Corporations’ Cashiers plant. He worked as a quality control engineer for twenty-eight years before retiring.
He was very active in the Jackson County Community Development Council, having served as president for several years. He was also president and active in the Norton CDC.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday August 20 at the Norton Community Building, with Dr. Thad Dowdle, Rev. Billy Rintz and Rev. Rick Potts officiating. A private graveside service will be held at Webster Cemetery at a later date.
