Joseph Richard Moody

Joseph Richard Moody, 63, of Sylva, passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at Medwest Harris in Sylva following a period of declining health. Joseph was born June 20, 1948. A lifelong resident of Jackson County, he was the son of the late Walter Grail and Beulah Fisher Moody. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Lee Moody on February 20, 2012, and a brother Jimmy Dale Moody. Joseph served in the Army National Guard for 6 years. Prior to disability retirement, he was employed by Buckeye Construction as a loader operator. He never met a stranger and was a friend to everyone he met. He had a wonderful sense of humor and way always the "entertainer" with his "gift of gab" and fun stories. He loved to fish and hunt. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sherry Henry Moody; a daughter, Tonia Moody Biddix and husband Tommy; a daughter-in-law, Jessica Bradley Moody; five grandchildren, Jeremiah, Dustin, and Hannah Biddix, Casandra Bradley and Madelyn Moody, all of Sylva; siblings, Ervin Moody and wife Nina of Asheville; Kathleen Moody Owen and husband "Jeep"; Dan Moody and wife Marjorie, and Hal Moody and wife Glenda, all of Sylva. Two aunts, and several nieces and nephews also survive. Pallbearers will be nephews: Mike, Russ, Scott, Gary, Matthew, and Jason Moody, and Mark Owen. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Allison, Raymond Bunn, Joe Price Denton, Roger Mathis, and Shannon Ramsey. Services will be held Sunday, May 13, 2012 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services, with the reverends Dr. John Bunn and Earl Holden officiating with burial at Addie Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday, May 12, from 6 until8 pm at Appalachian Funeral Services.
