James Ellis Hooper, 94 of Sylva and Sevierville, Tennessee passed away on Friday, June 3, 2022 at Hospice in Pinehurst, NC. Born on August 25, 1927 to John and Emma Hooper in Cullowhee, James had a great love for the outdoors. He loved hunting, skiing, and hiking and was a successful builder/developer in Northern Virginia before retiring to Sevierville.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his wife, Louise; daughter, Susan Hooper; two sisters, Hazel and Juanita; and a brother, Gene.
James is survived by a daughter, Sandra K. Hooper of Pinehurst; and a son, Jeffrey R. Hooper and his wife, Eliana, of Orlando, Florida; two granddaughters, Natalie Weiss of Graceville, Florida and Jessica Hardwick of Durham, North Carolina; two grandsons, Brent Hooper and Cameron Hooper both of Orlando, FL; two great-granddaughters, Michelle and Margot McDonald; one sister, Ruth Fuson of Knoxville, Tennessee; and many many nieces and nephews. James is also survived by Kathleen Norton of Sylva, his loving partner for fourteen years.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 11th at Cullowhee Baptist Church with the Revs. Jeffrey and Tonya Vickery officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
