John Caldwell, 78 of Dillsboro, went home to be with the Lord on Monday April 12, 2021. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Mitchell and Viola Smith Caldwell.
John was a member of Sugar Creek Baptist Church. He was a master carpenter by trade and built some beautiful furniture. He loved coon hunting. "Papaw" volunteered with Life Challenge of WNC. His life revolved around his family especially Zoie, his great granddaughter. John was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and he will be missed by all.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings; Hazel Caldwell, Betty Holmes, Don Caldwell, and Clifton Caldwell.
John is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Linda Garrett Caldwell; two sons, Michael (Dora), and Randy Caldwell; a daughter, Priscilla (Buck) Caldwell; four grandchildren, Mitch (Amber) Phillips, Jacob Phillips, Levi, and Jessica Moody; and one great granddaughter, Zoie Phillips; three siblings, Barbara Snells, Linda Campbell (Bobby), and Ella Mae Grasty. Also surviving are lots of other adopted grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday April 15th in the chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services with the Rev. Steve Webb officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow in Caldwell Family Cemetery in Haywood County.
