Joe L. Messer

Joe L. Messer, age 92 of Sylva, passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2022. He was born in Jackson County, May 18, 1930, to the late Joe E. and Fannie Brooks Messer.

Joe loved spending time with his friends and family. He also loved to mow, hunt, and watch sporting events.  

He will be dearly missed by his nephews, Dennis Beck of Sylva, Tony Bradley of Asheville; nieces, Marilyn Beck of Asheville, Linda B. Gaddy of Asheville; great-nephew, Jason Gaddy of Asheville; great-niece, Tatum Beck; great-great nephew, Kobe Conley; brother-in-law, Pat Angel  (Peggy Jo) of Sylva; and very close friend, G.W. Revis.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, Blanche “Lucy” Messer; sisters, Pauline Bradley, Gazelle Jones; and stepsister, Pat Revis.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00PM on Saturday, October 22, 2022, at Appalachian Funeral Services, Sylva, with a Funeral Service at 3:00PM. Revs. Ernie Jamison, and Earl Holden, officiating.   Interment will follow at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.
