Jerry Scott Cooper

Jerry Scott Cooper, 83 of Sylva, passed into his heavenly home on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at Skyland Care Center. He was the son of the late Scott and Charmie (Chester) Cooper. He is also preceded in death by a sister, June Cooper Stephens, brother-in-law Ed Stephens and two brothers, Scotty and Mike Cooper. His family circle is now complete in Heaven. Oh, what a celebration they are having today!

He is survived by two sons, Jerry Anthony (Jerp) Cooper and Michael Lee (Mickey) Cooper who considered their dad as their Hero; 5 grandchildren who absolutely adored him - Justin Cooper Davis (Matt), Melisa Cooper Hawk (Derrick), Jordan Cooper (Amber), Jeanna Cooper, and Myka Cooper Reppert (Jacob). His great grandchildren were the heartbeat of his life also. They will truly miss their Papa – Landon, Jack, Charlie, Sawyer, Eli, Hadley, Harper, Keaston, Kallie, and Jude. He also is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Jerry spent his life working in the excavating business. He owned a successful business and was happiest outside digging in dirt and creating beautiful landscapes for his clients. He earned a black belt in Karate during his earlier years. He was always adamant about showing respect, using good manners, and regular exercise…just ask his family about the after-dinner exercise that happened in his house. Jerry loved car racing and never missed watching a race. He was a huge fan of fast cars and boats. To name a few cars, he had his orange Road Runner, black Corvette, and Red Viper. He took thousands of pictures of his kids, grandkids, great grandkids, and extended family for many years. He loved his camera. The Cooper family has a huge history/collection of pictures thanks to his love of photography. Another love of Jerry’s was the beach. Many trips were made to different beaches in his lifetime. Listening to music was one of his favorite pastimes whether attending live performances or through any electronic source.

The family would like to thank the loving staff at Skyland Care Center for taking such good care of him for the last three years. There aren’t enough words to express our love and appreciation to all of them. They helped the family get through some hard times, especially during the last month of his life. They truly are angels on earth.

A celebration of his life will be held at Appalachian Funeral Home on Sunday, July 14th at 3:00 pm. Visitation will be held that day from 2:00 to 3:00 pm.
