Jeannette Farmer Bryson, age 100, passed away on January 1 in Sylva. She was born July 20, 1920 in Whittier, NC to William S. Farmer and Ollie D. Nelson Farmer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alden Erwin Bryson and her two sisters, Juanita Farmer Proffitt and Aloha Farmer Vann.
A lifelong resident of Jackson County, she was a graduate of Western Carolina University, with an MA in Education. She taught elementary school for more than 35 years, most of that time at Scotts Creek Elementary School. She was a member of Alpha Lambda Delta, and Scotts Creek Baptist Church, where she was church librarian for many years.
She is survived by her son, Erwin Nelson Bryson and his wife, Lynda, of Greensboro, NC. Grandson, David Alden Bryson and his wife, Monica, of Littleton, CO. Great-grandchildren Sabrina Elizabeth Bryson and Oliver Jacob Bryson. Niece, Wenona Vann Nelson and nephew John Proffitt.
A graveside service will be held at Fairview Memorial Gardens for the immediate family. A memorial celebrating her life will be held at Scotts Creek Baptist Church on July 24, 2021.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions to the Brank and Juanita Farmer Proffitt Scholarship Fund at Western Carolina University.
