Jean Pittillo, age 68, of 675 Cane Creek Road, Sylva died Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at her home. Jean was born March 23, 1943, in Orlando, FL, the daughter of the late Quenton and the late Roberta (Truman) Farr. She married Dan Pittillo. She attended the University of Georgia, where she earned a Bachelors of Science in Botany. She founded the Cullowhee Preschool program, located at the Cullowhee United Methodist Church, and volunteered for many years with that program before retirement. She was a member of the Cullowhee United Methodist Church and choir for 45 years, and volunteered with the C.J. Harris Hospital Auxiliary for around 30 years. She loved the local plants and flowers and working with children. She is survived by her husband, Dan; a son, Shane Pittillo of Sylva; a daughter, Heather Pittillo and husband Thomas Witherspoon of Swannanoa, NC; a brother, James Farr and wife Sally, of Bradenton, FL, and twin three year old grandchildren, Sylvana and Geneva Witherspoon of Swannanoa.
A memorial service will be held at 6:00 pm Sunday, July 24, 2011 at the Cullowhee United Methodist Church with Rev. David Reeves officiating. The family will visit with friends after the service at the church.
Instead of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to CUMC (Cullowhee United Methodist Church) Cullowhee Kids Preschool Scholarship Fund, as Jean was a long-time preschool program director and childcare-giver. Alternatively, friends may give to their favorite charity in memory of Jean.
