James Neville Zachary, age 73, of Sylva died Thursday, February 2, 2012 at John Keever Solace Center in Asheville, NC. Mr. Zachary was born June 2, 1938 in Brevard, NC. He is the son of the late Howard and the late Alberta (Jenkins) Zachary.
He served in the NC National Guard. He attended the Paterson School for Boys in Lenoir, NC. James graduated from the UNC School of Pharmacy in Chapel Hill. He was the owner of the Sylva Pharmacy and worked for Shop and Save in Bryson City and Rite Aid Drugs. He made a Banjo himself and loved to play it. He made gunstocks and reloaded ammo. He was a Free Mason.
He is survived by two daughters: Stacey and Dewey Messer of Tuckasegee, NC, Allison and Owen Couley of Asheville, NC; Brothers: Mark and Jon Zachary of Cashiers, NC; one sister Julie DeMarko of Pensacola, FL four grand Lily Hertzberg, Lowery, Willow Sumner Messer.
Funeral service will be at 2:30 PM Sunday February 5,2012 in St. John's Episcopal Church with Rev. Patricia Curtis officiating. Burial will follow in the upper Zachary cemetery with graveside rites conducted by the Masonic lodge 459. The family will receive friends from 6:00PM until 8:00 PM Saturday February 4, 2012 at Appalachian Funeral Services in Sylva.
