James Harold Jamison, 84, of Sylva NC, passed away peacefully, on Sunday, June 9, 2024, after a period
of declining health.
Harold was a native of Jackson County, born March 10, 1940, to the Rev. Ernest W. Jamison, Sr. and
Altha Beasley Jamison. He lived his entire life in Sylva, NC, marrying the love of his life, Elizabeth
“Libby”Jamison, August 3, 1963, and they were happily married until she passed away in 2010. Harold
worked in the textile industry for 33 years and after retiring from there, became maintenance worker
for Jackson County Schools for 7 years. His work ethic was founded in being a craftsman and had built
several houses during his life. He loved woodworking, singing in the choir, listening to southern gospel
music and watching the Braves. He served as a member of the NC National Guard for 2 years as well as
active duty army for 6 months. His love for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, led to his life lived with a
true servants heart. He served many years as deacon at East Sylva Baptist Church.
He will be dearly missed by Betty Fisher, sister, of Easley, SC. Steve Jamison, son, wife Kimberly T.
Jamison, of Sylva NC. Darryl Jamison, son, wife Kimberly H. Jamison, of Franklin NC. 4 grandchildren
and 2 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Ernest W. Jamison, Sr. and Altha Beasley Jamison. His
wife, Elizabeth Carden Jamison. Brothers, Ernest W. Jamison, Jr. and Vernon Jamison. Sisters, Georgia
Buchanan, Dorothy Dietz, Jean Jamison and Helen Jamison.
The family will receive friends from 12:30-2:00PM on Friday, June 14, 2024, at East Sylva Baptist Church,
61 Faith Ave, Sylva NC 28779, with funeral service to follow at 2:00PM. Revs. Charles L Dean and Shane
Danner, officiating. Interment to follow at Lovedale Cemetery.
