James Ralph Clayton

James “Jim” Ralph Clayton, age 75 of Cullowhee NC, passed away on Sunday January 22, 2023.   He was born on September 19, 1947, in Jackson County, to the late James Ralph and Wilma Mary Clark Clayton. 

Jim was an avid fisherman and loved the outdoors.  He was also fond of the old western shows and movies. He served and retired from the U.S. Navy after 23 years, and also retired from WCU Facilities Management.

He will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Doan N. Clayton; children, Kim Clayton, Keith Clayton (Casey), of Texas; grandchildren, Avery, Tyler; siblings, Clark Clayton, Irene Stevens, Bobbie Jo Adams (Larry), Joyce Millsaps (Darrell), Tommy Clayton; and many nieces and nephews

He was preceded in death by his sister, Louise (Bobby) Cope; brother-in-law, Frank Stevens; sister-in-law, Audrey Clayton;  and his faithful companion, Oscar the Dachshund.

A Celebration of Jim’s Life will take place at 2:00PM on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at Appalachian Funeral Services Sylva NC.  The family will receive friends from 1:00PM - 2:00PM.  Rev. Eddie Stillwell, officiating.

Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Appalachian Funeral Services, Sylva NC.
