James Roland (Jim) Allman 78 of Webster died Monday October 30, 2017. Jim was the son of the late William Polk Allman and Maude Roland Allman. Jim is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Katie Smith Allman; two children, Howard D. Allman of Webster and Christi R. Allman of Sylva; two brothers, Alan Allman (Reva) of Buringtown and Coleman Blake Allman (Ann) of Bryson City; and a chosen daughter Barbie Allen of Waynesville. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
Jim served his community for forty-four years as a Nationwide Insurance agent. He was a six year veteran of the Army National Guard. Jim was president of the Sylva Jay Cees and president of the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce. He also served as Chairman of the Jackson County Republican Party. He was a member and chairman of the Jackson County School Board where he helped in the planning and construction of Fairview Elementary School, Blue Ridge School and Smoky Mountain Elementary School.
Jim was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed spending time in his garden on the banks of the Tuckasegee River at his home in Webster. Jim loved spending time with his family and many friends both here in Webster and on his many trips to Twin Bridges, Montana.
Although in his later years his diabetes and the complication from the disease prevented him from being as active as he once was, he loved to sit on his porch and look at the beauty of the Tuckasegee River Valley, his garden and watch his grandchildren and great grandchildren play in the yard and field he worked so hard to build and maintain.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday November 3rd in the chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services with the Rev. Eddie Stillwell and the Rev. Mike Farmer officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked donations be made to the Lovedale Cemetery fund or a charity of your choice.
