Jacqualyn “Jackie” Wood Brown, age 82 of Cope Creek Road, Sylva, passed peacefully from this life on Thursday, January 7, 2021. She was born March 31, 1938 to the late Dell H. and Cora (Lowe) Wood.
A lifelong resident of Jackson County, Jackie was a member of the Balsam Grove Freewill Baptist Church, where she grew up in the Caney Fork community. She is lovingly remembered for “having raised half of Jackson County”, during the more than thirty years that she operated her daycare. Jackie’s strength and spirit inspired countless others that she generously cared for across generations.
Preceding her in death were husband, Clarence Ray Brown, brother Bill Wood and sister Hilda Fisher. Jackie is survived by daughter Sharon (Michael) Montague and son Michael (Pam) Brown, all of Sylva. She spoke proudly of her grandchildren Brody (Morgan) Montague, Cassie (Andre) Pugliese-Carter, and Michael, Michelle, and Terry Brown. Two sisters, Joyce (Carl) Adams and Priscilla “Sally” (Gene) Brown survive, along with brother, Cooter Woods. Her beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and their spouses also survive.
The family will honor Jackie’s life with a Graveside Service at 12:00 pm on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at the Old Field Cemetery, Cope Creek Road, Sylva, NC. The Reverends Avery Brown and Carl Adams will preside. Masks and social distancing will be necessary.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Scotts Creek Baptist Church, PO Box 55, Sylva, NC 28779. Please memo to: Old Field Cemetery Fund. The family also wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Vero Health and Rehab of Sylva.
