Jack Alexander Deitz, age 79, of Sylva, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2017 at Mission Hospital-Memorial Campus of Asheville, NC. Jack was born May 23, 1938 in Sylva. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Sue Cooper Deitz; six children, Sharon (Thad) Failor and Cara Gaye of Nampa, Idaho, Jamey (Linda) DeBord, Lesha (Joel) Setzer, Jeff (Tina) DeBord and Melissa Rogers. He is also survived by ten grandchildren; Stephen, Megan and Lauren Failor; Shaina and Katie Smith; Matt DeBord, Holly Weaver, Lee Setzer, Lauren Pendergast and Luke Rogers. Three great-grandchildren also survive.
Jack was the son of the late Jim and Faye Deitz. Also preceding him in death were two sisters Barbara Cretsos and Betty Leonard, and one brother, Harold. He is survived by his sister Joyce (Danny) Fisher and brother Jim Deitz and several nephews.
Jack was a beloved husband, father and stepfather who loved history, politics, debates, and his family. He served in the US Army for nine years and earned his degree in Business at WCU and Masters in Economics from Colorado State. Jack owned Clancy's Saloon in Fort Collins, Colorado; Skyview Satellites and developed Beechwood and Cole Mountain subdivisions. Jack attended East Sylva Baptist Church.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday December 21st at 3:00 p.m. at East Sylva Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Dean and the Rev. Reed Benson officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service.
