Howard Brown, 89, of Whittier went home to be with the Lord Saturday morning, March 21, 2015. A native and lifelong resident of Jackson County, Howard was the son of the late Homer and the late Beulah Beck Brown. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working in the garden. He enjoyed playing with his grandkids and great grandkids and was a great storyteller.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his son, Howard Brown, Jr, 2 brothers, Ralph and Glen Brown, one great grandson, Dakota Massingale, and one daughter-in-law, Bertha Brown.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Annie Mae Wilkes Brown,; two daughters, Linda (Frank) Frye, Leicester, and Beverly Hines of Cherokee; two sons, Johnny Brown and James, "Bo" (Pat) Brown, both of Dillsboro; nine grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; 12 step great grandchildren; and several cousins, and a niece also survive.
The Funeral will be held 2:00 pm on Tuesday, March 24 in the Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services, 165 Skyland Drive, Sylva, NC with Rev. Larry Nations officiating. Burial will be in Dick's Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday, March 23 from 7-9pm at Appalachian Funeral Services.
