Harriet Holland Whitaker

Harriet Holland Whitaker, 93, formerly of Sylva, died at Coble Health Care Center at The Twin Lakes Community in Burlington NC on June 24, 2014, after one year of failing health. She was born in Detroit, Michigan on June 29, 1920 to the late Lloyd and Harriet Lovejoy Holland. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Roy L. Whitaker, Sr. and by a brother and a sister. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sylva, NC. She has lived in Burlington NC for the last 20 years. Prior to moving to Burlington she had lived in Sylva, NC for the most of her life. She was a graduate of Sylva Central High School, class of 1937. She was the last surviving member of the Victory Home Demonstration Club. She is survived by her son Roy L. Whitaker, Jr. and his wife Diana of Burlington NC. 2 grandsons and 4 great grandchildren, 7 step brothers and sisters also survive. Graveside Services will be 2pm Friday June 27 at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Sylva, NC . .
