Gracia M. Blackburn

Sylva - Gracia Diane Mathis Blackburn, 57, passed away on Friday, July 12, 2024 at Memorial Campus of Mission Hospital.

Gracia was a native and lifelong resident of Jackson County and a daughter of the late Denton and Joan Mathis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Ricky Mathis and one sister, Kathy Pace. Gracia worked as a Sergeant in the detention office of the Jackson County Sheriff's office. She retired in 2018 with 21 years of service. Gracia loved her family but most of all she adored her two grandsons.

She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Charles Blackburn; one son, Trinity Blackburn and his wife, Alannah, of Sylva; two grandsons, Zander and Zayden Blackburn; one brother, Eugene Mathis; two special nieces, Amy Buchanan and Gina Townsend; and several other nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2024 in the Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services with the Reverend Lenny Nations and Reverend Eddie Stillwell officiating. Burial will follow at Balsam Grove Cemetery on Caney Fork. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
