Glenn Darrell Wood, 69, of Sapphire went home to be with his Lord Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. A native of Jackson County, he is the son of Mildred Boley Wood of Tuckasegee and the late Warren Wallace Wood. A Vietnam Veteran, he proudly served his country. He was a member and deacon at the Church At Sapphire. He loved to hunt and fish and was a devoted husband and father.
He was employed at Sapphire Valley for over 40 years and was president and general partner of Sapphire Property Management from 1991 until his retirement in 2011. Besides his father, he was preceded in death by his Jack Russell Terrier, Bitsy.
Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife of 40 years, Katie Presley Wood; two sons, Christopher Wood of Greensboro, NC and Chad Wood of Sapphire; one brother, Bill Wood and wife Diane of Tuckasegee; one sister, Sandra and husband Clifford Shuler of Candler. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 pm on Sunday, December 30, 2012 in the chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services of Sylva with Dr. Oliver Skerrett and Rev. Jackie Hensley officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fairview Memorial Gardens in Sylva.
