George Morrison Green, age 97, of Sylva, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 13, 2022. He was the husband of the late Aileen Green and the son of the late George Leamon and Gracie Hall Green.
He was a founding member of Green’s Creek Baptist Church and was actively involved in the building of the church. He served the church as a Sunday School teacher, deacon, and served on many committees through the years. He was an avid gardener and dearly loved his family.
George proudly served his country in World War II as a member of the US Army Infantry and was a prisoner of war in a German POW camp.
After his military career, he worked as a carpenter for several years and then went to work for Southern Lumber (Stovall’s) until his retirement.
In addition to his wife and his parents, he was also preceded in death by one son, Stanley Green; one daughter, Clara Green Martin; one brother and three sisters.
George is survived by two special twin grandchildren, Colby (Charay) Green and Lauren Green, both of Sylva, NC; two sisters, Jane (Al) Hughes and Juanita (Larry) Ward, both of Asheville, NC; one daughter-in-law, Katherine Webb Green of Sylva, NC; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services will be held on Friday, November 18, 2022, at Green’s Creek Cemetery with Rev. Tom Lavin officiating. The family will receive friends at Appalachian Funeral Services in Sylva, NC from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm and will proceed to the cemetery immediately following the visitation.
Serving as pallbearers will be: Colby Green, Kix Barker, Jordan Cooper, Randy Cabe, Al Hughes, and Larry Ward.
