George McVicar Dupuy April 26, 1943 – December 21, 2024
George McVicar Dupuy passed away on December 21, 2024, in Sylva, North Carolina.
George was born on April 26, 1943, in Bronxville, New York, to Jean M. Danielson and Trevor N. Dupuy. He attended the Mount Hermon School and graduated cum laude from the College of William and Mary. He went on to earn his Master’s and Ph.D. degrees in business from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
George had a distinguished career as a business professor, teaching at various universities across the Southeast. He served as the Vance Professor of Business at Presbyterian College, the Callaway Professor of Management at LaGrange College, the Dean of the School of Business at Lynchburg College, and as a Professor of Business at the University of Virginia.
Dedicated to his students, George was passionate about teaching innovation. He encouraged collaboration through class participation and team projects, always aiming to prepare his students for successful careers. He also took great pride in mentoring and advising students on their career paths. Nothing brought him greater joy than seeing his students thrive in their lives and careers.
George is survived by his wife, Joyce Dupuy; his two brothers, Colonel Trevor N. (Linda) Dupuy and R. Ernest (Nancy) Dupuy; his three children, Dave (Kim) Dupuy, Debbie (Roy) Timm, and Ashley Bentley; and his four beloved grandchildren: Alex (Lizzy) Timm, Anna (Jack) Paris, Danielle Dupuy, and Jack Dupuy.
George will be remembered for his dedication to education, his love for his family, and his lasting impact on the lives of those he taught and mentored.
A celebration of George’s life will be held at a later date.
