Geneva Mabel Sneed

d. July 12, 2017

Geneva Mabel H. Sneed, 90, of Sylva went home to be with her lord on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 after a period of declining health. A native and lifelong resident of Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late Hilliard and Bertha Mull Hoyle. She was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church and she enjoyed gardening, flowers, watching her birds, quilting, and being with her family. Mabel never met a stranger, she was always loving and giving, and she never missed an opportunity to have fun with whomever she was with. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Sneed, one son, James Sneed, one grandson, Chris Green, one great-grandson, Chris Green, Jr., four brothers, Raymond Hoyle, Carl Hoyle, Johnnie Hoyle, Warner Hoyle, one sister, Juanita Hoyle, and her Aunt Bell and Uncle Charlie Austin who raised her after the deaths of her parents. Mabel is survived by her children: Ruth (Gene) Settlemyre, Mike (Marcia) Sneed, Gladys (Gerald) Green, Bill (Brenda) Sneed, and Kathy (Terry) Ashe, 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and one on the way, 2 great-great grandchildren, and 3 special caregivers, Michelle Mackey, Cheryl Young, and Susan Caldwell. Mabel will leave an echo whispering softly down the ways of happy times, laughing times, and bright and sunny days. The funeral will be held at Appalachian Funeral Services on Sunday July 16, 2017 at 1:00 pm with the Reverends Earl Holden and Keith Ashe officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Love Cemetery immediately following the service. Pallbearers will be Kalin Haskett, Justin Mathis, Jason Dillard, Jamie Dellinger, Sheyenne Lanning, and Jerry Dale Lanning. The family wishes to thank Four Seasons Hospice for their love and care given to Mabel. Memorials may be made to the Balsam-Willets Ochre-Hill Volunteer Fire Department in c/o of Chief Johnny Nicholson at PO Box 291, Balsam, North Carolina 28707.
