Joe Cook, 75, of Sylva, passed away Monday April 11, 2016 after an extended illness. Joe was the son of the late Claude and Laura Cook of Sylva. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by a brother Jim and two sisters; Judith and Carolyn.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years Linda Wheeler Cook
3 Sons- Ricky (Jill), Ronnie (Judy) and Randy (Kim) all of Sylva
4 Brothers- Doyle, Reese, Frank and Don
Grandchildren- Larry (Beth) of Asheville, LeeAnne, Coleman, Casey, Mamie, Mitchell, Meredith, McKayla, Nathan and Jaedon all of Sylva
Great Grandchildren- Sadie, Alexia, Lathan, Lane and Zach
Joe was employed by the Jackson County Board of Education as the Director of Transportation for the County school bus garage for 30 years. When Joe was younger he liked riding horses and watching football. He enjoyed going to Middleton's Pawn Shop in Sylva and hanging out with his friends.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 pm Friday April 15 in the Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services with the Revs. Avery Brown, Robert Blanton and Caleb Kelly officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Cook Family Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Coleman, Larry, Charlie Cook, David Cook, Mitchell, Brian Ashe, Kent Ashe and Mark Hoyle. Honorary pallbearers are Casey, Nathan and Steve Cook.
