Freda Messer Leopard, 80 of Tuckasegee, passed away Tuesday, December 26, 2023 at Skyland Care Center surrounded by her family, following an extended illness. Freda was born June 9, 1943 in Jackson County to the late William Lewis and Marie Chastain Messer. Freda a devoted wife and mother enjoyed working in her flowers and spending time with family and friends. Everyone was welcome at her table nobody went away hungry.

In addition to her parents, Freda was preceded in death by three sisters, infant Ella Louise Messer, Geraldine Hicks, Judy Warren; two brothers, Eddie and Bennie Messer.  

Freda is survived by her husband of 62 years, John Morgan Leopard; daughter, Tina Leopard of Tuckaseegee; sister, Linda Smith (Elmo) of Brevard; and two brothers, Bill (Brenda) and Wade (Marquetta) Messer, both of Tuckaseegee; brother-in-law, Jerry Warren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 2, 2024 in the Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services with the Reverend Eddie Stillwell and Reverend Ethan Fortner officiating.  Burial will follow at Shook Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
