Theresa Sutton Seals

Ezilee “Theresa” Sutton Seals, 85, passed away on Sunday, November 24th, 2024, surrounded by her family. Theresa was born August 17th, 1939 in Qualla Township of Jackson County North Carolina, to Troy and Bessie Martin. She grew up in Swain County.

Theresa graduated from Berea College in 1962 with a degree in Nursing and worked as a l nurse at C.J. Harris Community Hospital until becoming certified as a CRNA in 1967. She then continued serving the Jackson County community as a nurse anesthetist at Harris Regional Hospital for over 50 years.

Theresa carried a reputation of being an exceptional care provider during her time at Harris and expressed the love she had for both her coworkers and the patients she cared for daily. Theresa drew this love from her conviction as a strong Christian woman and used every opportunity to share the message of the Lord with others, including her family members and neighbors. She gave selflessly to her family and community through her love of cooking, gardening, and sewing, and found joy in service to the Church.

 Theresa was a faithful Christian and founding member of the Woodland Church of Christ. She will be dearly missed by her surviving siblings; Charles, Elmer, Edgar, and Carroll Martin, her children; Nora Sutton Myers (Lee), James Sutton (Brooke), her grandchildren; Miranda Hann (Tim), Erik Myers, Weston Sutton, and her two great-grandchildren; Heidi and Hayden Hann. 

 The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00pm on Sunday, December 8th, 2024, at Woodland Church of Christ in Sylva, North Carolina, with a memorial service immediately following.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Woodland Church of Christ Campus Ministry, 146 Weldon Hall Road, Sylva, NC 28779.
