Evelyn Baker

Evelyn Bennett Baker died September 28, 2014 at Med West Harris Hospital in Sylva. She was born August 14, 1946 in Jackson County and was the daughter of the late Leamon and Edna Woodard Bennett. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert (Bob) Baker and a brother Floyd Bennett and a sister Irene Vaughn. Evelyn was a 1964 graduate of Cullowhee High school and was a member of the Webster Baptist Church and she retired from Jackson County as Clerk to the Board of County Commissioners. Evelyn is survived by a son Scott A. Baker and wife Heather Cohen of Cullowhee and grandchildren Alex and Aaron Baker. Brothers Johnny Bennett of Arden , Larry Bennett of Cullowhee and three step brothers Charles Trantham of Tuckasegee, Scotty Trantham of Cashiers and Stephen Bennett of Cullowhee and Sisters Mary Ann Wheatley of Sylva, Christine Bryson of Leicester, Lillie M. Weaver of Weaverville and Linda Baker of Swannanoa. A memorial service will be held in the Webster Baptist Church on Wednesday October 1, 2014 at 5:00 PM with the Rev. Scott Carter officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM at the church before the service. Memorials are requested to the Webster Baptist Church Building Fund.
