Eva Louise Martyn

Eva Louise Martyn of Balsam, North Carolina passed away on September 11, 2023. Eva was born on August 31, 1937 to Charles and Hulda Martin in Maquoketa, Iowa.

Eva lived in Florida for many years where she made life-long friends. Her 6 foot 1 inch slender frame often turned heads when she entered a room. When she wasn’t working at a local law office, she collected shells and enjoyed boating and fishing. Her travels included skiing in Chile and a trip around the world.  She often took trips to England where she bought antiques such as Staffordshire china and figurines. She would bring her purchases back to the United States to sell in her antique business.

Eva always enjoyed gardening. At her first home in Balsam, she raised dahlias and entered them in regional dahlia competitions. Eva was busy with her antique business as well.  For years she sold her antiques at the Scott Antique Market in Atlanta. She also sold antiques at a local antique mall.

She continued gardening at the home she built with Charles Baker in Balsam. Each year she would grow a variety of vegetables from seed. Eva and Charles spent many hours cooking gourmet meals and enjoying the company of their standard poodle, Henri.

Eva is preceded in death by her four sisters, Mary Harrington, Liz Noah, Shirley Horn and Polly Espy.  She is survived by Charles Baker and many nieces and nephews.

Eva will be greatly missed by her family and her friends in Florida and North Carolina. A private ceremony will be held at a later date.
