Ernie Lee Akins, 68, of Tuckasegee, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Sunday October 6, 2019. A native and lifelong resident of Jackson County he was the son of the late Paul and Geneva Akins. A member of New Hope Baptist Church, Ernie was a U.S.Marine Corps Veteran. He loved his truck driving, especially his long distance truck driving, he enjoyed playing his guitar and listening to country music. He loved his family, his friends and his dogs. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by a brother, Ronnie Akins.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years Linda Akins

Julie Owens ( Markus) of Tuckasegee
Kim Bryson (John ) of Sylva
Ernie Akins Jr. of High Point
Grandchildren- Tasha, Tabitha, Sarah, Ashley, Trenten, Jacob, Kyersten, Alisha and Mikaela
Great Grandchildren- Makinley, Brinley, Natalie and Emmit
Brother- Larry Akins (Sheila) of Sylva
Several nieces and nephews also survive
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday October 12, 2019 in the Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services with the Revs. Markus Owens and Jeremiah McCall officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the Service from 12:00 until 2:00 pm at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Lung Association, National Direct Response Headquarters, 1200 Hosford St, Suite 101, Hudson, WI, 54916-9316
