Elizabeth "Libby" Pearl Fisher Etherton, 92, died April 9, 2012 at Mountain Trace Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Jackson County on January 15, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Charles Carter Sr. and Myrtle McCracken Fisher. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Kathleen Fisher Pannell, two brothers, James Howell Fisher and Charles Carter Fisher Jr, one niece Brenda Pannell Rhoads, two nephews, Robert and Richard Pannell and one great-great nephew Benjamin Black. She retired as a support staff employee of the U.S. Department of State. She served in posts in Greece, Japan, Germany and Somalia. She enjoyed traveling and doing charitable work in the community.
She is survived by two nieces, Karen Galloway of Largo, Fla., and Sheila Ratcliff of Alexandria, VA., Three great nephews, Charles Gates of Sylva, Alan Gates of Balsam and Wade Galloway of Pasadena, MD., two great nieces, Greta Black of Largo, Fla., and Kathleen Haberkorn of Pasadena, Md., Three great great nieces, two great great nephews, 2 great great great nieces and 1 great great great nephew.
Burial will be in her family plot in Scott's Creek Church's Old Field Cemetery. She was a lifelong member of the Church and a descendant of the pioneer families in Jackson and Haywood Counties.
