Elizabeth W. Brown, 82, of Sylva died Monday, March 3, 2014 at Autumn Care in Waynesville, NC. Elizabeth was born September 22, 1931 in Mitchell County, NC. She was the daughter of the late Lionel Hugh and the late Emma Alice (Silver) Worthen.
Elizabeth grew up in Spruce Pine and graduated from Harris High School and from Berea College in Berea, Kentucky. She worked for a time at Mills Home in Thomasville and later for Great Lakes Carbon Corporation in Morganton.
Elizabeth married John Amzey Brown on September 29, 1962. On December 28, 1964, John Amzey Brown II was born in Morganton. In 1966 they moved to Sylva where John was employed by Drexel to manage a furniture plant, and Elizabeth became a full time homemaker.
For some years John and Elizabeth were caregivers for her parents. They attended First Baptist Church of Sylva, and after John’s death, Elizabeth moved her membership to First Baptist. She was a member of the Ruth Sunday School Class and enjoyed the fellowship with the girls.
In addition to her husband who passed away in 2003 and her parents she was preceded by a brother Edward Hugh Worthen, who died at the age of six. Elizabeth is survived by her son John Brown II and a niece Michelle Jones, several cousins, and a host of friends and caregivers.

A Funeral service will be held Thursday March 6, 2014 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services with the Rev Jeff Mathis officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Gardens.
Friends will be received 30 Minutes prior to the service.
