Edgar Van Bottorf

Edgar Van Bottorf, a beloved electrician who dedicated his life to his work, has passed away at the age of 73. Born on October 24, 1949, in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania.

Edgar's career as an electrician spanned several decades. He began his journey at Queen Electric early in his career before moving on to Hayes and Lundsford. For the last 20 years of his working life, Edgar served as an esteemed electrician at the Canton Paper Mill. His expertise and attention to detail earned him the respect of both colleagues and clients.

Beyond his exemplary work ethic, Edgar had a deep love for boating and fishing, particularly at Lake Fontana. It was here that he found solace and joy, surrounded by nature and the serenity of the water. But what truly brought Edgar the greatest happiness was spending quality time with his family and friends. Their presence filled him with immense joy and contentment.

On July 20, 2023, Edgar Van Bottorf passed away at Mission Hospital in Buncombe County. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, dedication, and love for those closest to him. His memory will forever be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Edgar is survived by his daughter, Julie Cook and his favorite son-in-law, Jason; daughter, Cathleen Harper; son, Casey Bottorf; sister, Ileen Meggison and her husband, Ron Merz; grandchildren, Celeste Bottorf, Dakota Bottorf, Cody Cook and girlfriend, Autumn Brown, Hunter Cook, Savannah Cook; great-grandchildren, Ryder Cook and Woodrow Brown; special nieces and nephews, Lisa, Gina, Earl, Jenny Terry Michael Joey Andrew; special friend of the family who was like a brother to Edgar, Earl Lambert; former wife Candy Bottorf; as well as his loyal dog, Miley.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Butch Bottorf; sister, Julia Root; half siblings, Harold Bottorf, Betty Hoy, and Artie VanKirk.

In this time of mourning for Edgar's family and friends, a Celebration of Life will be held on July 23, 2023. The event will take place at Edgar's Home located at 1111 Franklin Grove Church Cemetery Road, Bryson City, NC 28713. The service will begin at 2:00 PM.  It is a time for all who loved and respected Edgar to come together, share stories, and honor his memory.

Edgar Van Bottorf will forever be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his profession as an electrician, his love for boating and fishing, and above all, his profound love for his family and friends. May his soul find eternal peace as we keep his memory alive in our hearts.
