Douglas Bryson Sherrill

Douglas Bryson Sherrill, age 75, of Sylva died Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at home in Sylva. Mr. Sherrill was born April 8, 1937 in Swain County. He is the son of the late Homer Lee and the late Arizona (Jacobs) Sherrill. Douglas was employed by Harrah's Casino in Cherokee. He was a member of Franklin Grove Baptist Church, and loved the outdoors and his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Corina Ann(Overman) Sherrill; five sons, Mike Sherrill and Donna of Franklin, Bruce and Darrell Surrett of Virginia; Wade Surrett of Clyde, NC, and David Harkless of Orlando, Fla; a daughter, Angie Watkins of Bryson City; two brothers, Jack Sherrill of Raleigh, and Donald Sherrill of Brevard; 16 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. The funeral will be held at 7:00 pm Saturday, September 8 at Appalachian Funeral Services of Sylva, with Rev. Greg Rogers officiating. The family will receive friends on hour before the service. Burial will be in Bumgarner Cemetery in Whittier at 9:00 am on Sunday morning, September 9, 2012. Honorary Pallbearers will be Charles Anderson, Thad Mason, Leonard Cole, Charles Stevenson, Shorty Shook, and Wade Mason. . .
