Douglas Mantooth, age 56 of Sylva, passed away at his home with his loving family by his side on Saturday, December 28, 2013. Doug was born on November 27, 1957 in Cleveland, TN to the late Warren Knoble Mantooth and Doris Chastain Mantooth. Doug was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Sylva and was a talented artist with a love for water colors. He was also an avid motorcyclist. Doug was a dedicated volunteer with the Student Assistance Program through the Cherokee School System where he fostered and mentored at risk youth for many years.
Doug is survived by his wife of 21 years, Mary Mantooth. He is also survived by his mother, Doris, one brother, Danny (Loretta) Mantooth of Cleveland, TN, a very special God daughter, Taneyah Morris-Hill of Cherokee, one niece, Danielle (Britt) DeBusk of Cleveland, TN and his great niece and nephew, Payton and Cooper DeBusk of Cleveland, TN.
A memorial service is planned for Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at 2:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church of Sylva with the Revs. Mike Shuford & Dan Stiles officiating. A reception will follow the service.
