Donna Kay McMahan- Donna got her wings today (June 23, 2017) and went to be with the Lord after a long fight with cancer at the age of 53. She was a lifelong resident of Jackson County. She graduated from Sylva-Webster High School and then Southwestern Community College with an AAS in Business and paralegal. She received her CNA II and was also employed part time with the Jackson County Schools as a bus driver. She was the daughter of Marvita Queen McMahan and the late D.C. McMahan both of Sylva. As a youth she was a member of Jarrett Memorial Baptist Church of Dillsboro and in her later years she became a member of Cullowhee Baptist Church, where she was baptized and saved and attended regularly. Besides her father she was also preceded in death by her grandparents as well as several uncles and cousins.
In addition to her mother she is also survived by 2 Sons- Dustin Shane Harris (Emma) and Brandon (Pooh) Heath Evans
3 Grandchildren- Cory Dakota Heath Evans, Autumn Rae McGail Evans, Daniel Levi Evans

She always had children who would stay with her, some for years, they would tell her they felt at home and she would just smile and take them in as her own. She loved spending time with her boys, they were her life. She also enjoyed watching her grandchildren, music of all kinds, singing, writing poems and cooking, but mostly just loving her boys and spending time with them.
A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 pm Friday June 30, 2017 in the Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services with the Rev. Mike Farmer officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 prior to the Service at the Funeral Home. In lieu of any flowers the family requests donations to be made to Appalachian Funeral Services to help with the cost of services.
