With a heavy heart, we announce the passing of Donna Johnson, a beloved mother, grandmother, mentor, and friend, who left this world peacefully on Monday, November 25, 2024, at the age of 88. Donna resided in Whittier, NC, where she dedicated her life to her family and community.
Born on March 20, 1936, Donna was a guiding light whose unending compassion and generosity touched the lives of many. As the proud mother of nine children and grandmother to 59 grandchildren, she was the bedrock of her family, extending her nurturing spirit not only to her kin but also to their friends and their children. Her home was a place of warmth and welcome, always open to anyone in need of a kind word or a homemade meal.
Donna was a woman of many talents that she joyfully shared with her community. She was known for her love of cooking, with her kitchen often filled with the aromas of lovingly prepared meals. Her creativity shone through in her sewing projects, painting endeavors, and captivating floral arrangements. She cherished teaching others the joy of these arts, inspiring generations to find passion in their own creativity.
Her commitment to her community was profound and multifaceted. Donna was a dynamic force in local sports and arts, coaching softball, cheerleading, and Cotillion dance classes. Her tireless fundraising efforts, selling candy and Christmas trees, ensured that local sports teams had the equipment and support they needed to thrive. In 1976, her vision and leadership brought the town's first parade to life, a tradition that continues to this day.
A successful businesswoman, Donna owned and operated Century Appliance Shop in Waynesville, NC, where her friendly service and dedication made her a beloved figure in the local business community.
Donna's legacy of love, creativity, and service will forever be cherished. She leaves behind a community richer for her contributions and a family united by the values she instilled.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Appalachian Funeral Services. Those wishing to honor Donna's memory are invited to celebrate her life and contributions. Details will be announced shortly. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to local youth programs, continuing Donna's dedication to nurturing future generations.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her spirit will continue to guide and inspire us. Rest in peace, Donna. Your legacy lives on in all of us.
