Dillard Chastine Parris

Dillard “Bill” Parris, peacefully and loved, passed on to his Heavenly home while surrounded by his family on August 4, 2018 at Skyland Care Center.

Bill was a lifelong resident of Jackson County; born on May 3, 1936 to the late Jake and Bethel Parris.  While he was both born and raised in his beloved mountain community of Balsam, Bill raised his family in Dillsboro alongside his wife of 64 years, the late, Betty Parris.  During his life, Bill served as the produce manager at the A&P grocery store for 38 years where he gained many precious lifelong friends.

Bill was a steady and loyal mentor to both his family and community.  While in life and death, Bill was loved and surrounded by his family.  He had two sons, Tim Parris, married to Pat Parris and Mike Parris.

Bill was loved by seven grandchildren, Beth Parris; Travis and Misty Parris; Elizabeth and Dale Wike; Erin Parris and Bryan Weddington; Whitney Parris and Andrew Queen; Andee and Austin Price; and Eli Parris.  Bill was also blessed with seven great grandchildren, Samantha Draper; Brett Parris; Thomas Wike; Emma Wike; Nicholas Weddington; Addison Mitchell; and Ava Price.

Bill had four siblings.  Surviving are Phyllis West and Donnie Parris.  He is now reunited in Heaven with his deceased siblings, Jake Parris, Jr. and Sara Curtis.

Services to celebrate Bill’s life and Heavenly Homecoming will be on Wednesday August 8, 2018 at Appalachian Funeral Home in Sylva, NC.  The Family will receive visitation beginning at 1:00pm lasting until 3:00pm.  Funeral services, officiated by Rev. Cory Boone and Rev. Eddie Stillwell, will follow in the Chapel at Appalachian Funeral Home and burial at Crawford Cemetery in Balsam.

Bill was a faithful member of Jarrett Memorial Church in Dillsboro.  The family asks in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Church; 5 Wild Rose Drive, Whittier, NC 28789.
