Dan Franklin Buchanan

Dan Franklin Buchanan, age 85, of the Sutton Branch Community, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 24th. He was the son of the late Thad and Letha McMahan Buchanan, and was a faithful and devoted member of Old Savannah Baptist Church. He willingly served in the United States Army, with a great love for his country. He retired after 33 years from Carolina Trailways and drove for the Smoky Mountain Boys.

Dan was preceded in death by his brothers; Glenn and Early Buchanan; and a sister, Ila Buchanan.

Dan is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 59 years, Mary Allie Sutton Buchanan; his son, Dan Franklin Buchanan, Jr.; his daughter, Amy Buchanan; his grandchildren that brought immense joy to his life; Allison Blanton (Jesse), Luke Burgess, Ashton Grasty (Eli), Elsie Buchanan, and Blair Buchanan. Also surviving are two great grandchildren, Kipton Grasty, and another little boy on the way, and Stetson Blanton; and many nieces and nephews, who he adored; siblings, Roger Buchanan, Verna Bryson, Ruth Warren (Ronnie), and Howard Buchanan (Sue).

Funeral services to honor Dan will be held at Old Savannah Baptist Church on Thursday, December 28th. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. with the service following. Pastor Austin Frady and Evangelist Matthew Nations will be officiating.

Following the service, burial will be in Old Savannah Baptist Church Cemetery with Preacher Tim Reeves presiding. Full military rites will be performed. Pallbearers will be Jesse Blanton, Randy Bryson, Corbbit Hall, Kevin Morgan, Ira Jones, and Pete Thomasson.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Old Savannah Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, OSBC Youth Fund, or Four Seasons Hospice in Hendersonville, NC.
