Curtis Clark Whitney, 82, devoted husband, father, brother and friend passed away at his home in Cullowhee, NC on June 18, 2024.

Curt was a proud Electrical Engineering graduate of the University of Florida (Go Gators!) and spent his career in the telecommunications industry, retiring in Atlanta, GA in 2000 after spending his entire career working for AT&T companies(Bell Labs, SB, Bellsouth Mobility) In his retirement in Cullowhee, Curt was President of the Caney Fork CDC and volunteered at the Friends of Library where he enjoyed making change and chatting with new friends on Friday mornings.

Curt grew up in Miami, Florida where he learned the love of the outdoors. His family has many fond memories of their time together camping, boating and SCUBA diving as well as multiple trips to barefoot sail in the Virgin Islands. His family and friends will always remember his love of dipping in cold streams, dancing with Ann, offkey singing, infectious laugh, big hugs, and gin martinis.

Curt is survived by his children Curtis Scott Whitney of Marietta, GA, Elizabeth Whitney Sayman and Robert Sayman of Durham, NC, and Allison Dawn Whitney and Melanie Neena Whitney of Port St Lucie, Fl as well as his grandchildren, Kyle Sayman, Jordan Sayman and Emma Sayman and siblings Roger Whitney, Richard Whitney, John Whitney and Carol Inman and a slew of nieces and nephews. All of whom loved him dearly and will never forget his adventurous spirit, his ability to fix anything and unconditional love and support. He will be deeply missed.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Ann Thomas Whitney, his parents Charles O. Whitney and Dorothy B. Whitney and his siblings, Patricia W Alge, Charles Whitney, and Donald Whitney.

Curt’s ashes will be buried at Balsam Grove Cemetery on Caney Fork Rd. No public service planned at this time.
