Clifton "Chic" Marcus Jones

Clifton “Chic” Jones, 89, of Sylva, ran his final race on July 31, 2024.

Chic was the son of the late Robert and Ethel Jones; he is also reunited in Heaven with his infant son Bryan Pearson Jones, brothers Doug, Ed, and Robert Nelson, Jr, and sister Shelby Jean.

He was baptized at Scotts Creek Baptist church last year and continued to live his life through the teachings of Christ. After fifty-three years with the NC Department of Transportation, Chic was awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, a prestigious award for those who are truly a pilar in their community. He was a precious mentor to many.

He loved working on classic cars and had a passion for drag racing. His family will be quick to inform anyone Chic was Terry Labonte’s number one NASCAR fan. More than anything Chic adored his family, especially his grandchildren. He was always present for them; whatever or whenever Chic made sure to show his support.

Left to cherish Chic’s memory are his beloved wife of sixty-nine years, Annie Jo Jones; sons Steven (Betty Jo Tyson Jones) and Mark Jones (Tina Sellers Jones); three grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Chic will be deeply missed by all.

A funeral service will be held at 2pm, Wednesday, August 7, 2024, in the chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services with Pastors J.D. Grant and Randy Miller; with a visitation held one hour prior. A graveside service to follow at Fairview Memorial Gardens of Sylva where he will be laid to rest next to his infant son Bryan. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers are Ronnie Sutton, Mitch Carson, Isaac Jones, Jared Jones, Mike Poteet, Johnny Phillips, Charlie Proctor and Jonathan Woodard.
