Charles Bert McClure, 90, of Sylva died Monday, March 5, 2012 at Med West Harris Hospital in Sylva. Mr. McClure was born June 11, 1921 in Jackson County. He is the son of the late Bert and Fannie Beck McClure. He was preceded in death by his first wife Betty Parris McClure, 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Charles loved riding his motorcycle and playing with the Appalachian Play Boys. He loved building and flying model planes and was an avid fisherman.
He served in the Navy during WWII He retired from WCU Water Department. He was a member of the Buff Creek Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Choir director and custodian. He also sang and played in several gospel singing groups.
He is survived by his wife: Elizabeth (Cope) McClure, 1 son Ricky McClure of Sylva, 1 step son Andy Herron of Eureka, Montana, 2 daughters Rita Cruzan of Sylva and Cindy Brooks of Whittier. 1 step daughter Jenny Herron of Oak Harbor, Washington, 4 Grandchildren and 2 step grandchildren and 1 step great grandchild.
A Memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday March 10, 2012 in the chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services with the Rev. Lloyd Fish and Rev. Josh Blythe
Officiating. Honors will be provided the William E. Dillard Post of the American Legion. Burial will be in the Addie Cemetery
