Obituary: Charles Hudson Allen
Date of Death: February 18, 2018
Charles H. Allen, 76, left this world behind on February 18th, 2018 following a brief illness.
Charles was a lifelong native of these mountains in Sylva which he referred to as one of the most beautiful places on Earth. He was the son of the late Charles T. Allen and Gertrude Nicholson Allen of Sylva. He was preceded in death by his brother Johnny Allen.
He was a football championship Golden Hurricane graduate of Sylva High, class of 1959. In 1960 he received his diploma from the Nashville Auto Diesel College. He was a mechanic by trade and specialized in large engine machinery (or anything with a motor!). He was known to build and race a car or two in his day.
He retired from NC Department of Transportation in July of 2006.
Charles was a man of integrity. He was honest, loyal and wickedly funny. He was always generous to anyone in need. Some of his hobbies included watching anything his grandson participated in along with being an avid gun collector. He was known in the community for his broccoli cornbread and apple cake which he delivered to those he deemed worthy.
He enjoyed visiting Middleton Pawn shop to see his old friend Bob Middleton and he spent time with his good buddy Hank Buchanan
He was surrounded with love and peace at home. By his side was his Beloved "Mo" Melinda B. Allen of the home, his two daughters, Mellie Allen and Laurel Allen Fisher both of Sylva. His faithful canine companions Axel and Maggie also gave him comfort.
He is also survived by his Pride and Joy, grandson, Nicholson "Chase" Fisher of Sylva.
Charles leaves behind his loving extended family, Darren Veach of Canton, NC, David Veach of Fort Mill, SC and Dwain Veach of Edmund, OK. He loved them along with their spouses and their children.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 22nd from 5:00 until 6:30 p.m. at Appalachian Funeral Services. A memorial service will follow in the chapel.
