"Pops" Cecil Ray Franklin died peacefully in Charles George VA Medical Center on July 23, 2016 in Asheville, NC at the age of 68. Cecil is survived by his wife Sheryl Franklin of Whittier, NC; Daughter Noel & husband Bill Paul of Battle Ground, WA; Daughter Dayna Watson & husband Jonmichael MacDowell of Cocoa Beach FL, Daughter Holly & husband David Combs Galax, VA and Son John & wife Melissa Franklin of Canton, NC. Brother Charlie & wife Lisa Franklin of Burnsville, NC. He had eight grandchildren and one nephew. He is preceded in death by his father and mother of Whittier, NC. Cecil was born on January 25, 1948 in Whittier, NC to James and Pauline Franklin. He graduated from Swain County High School in 1966 and served in the Army until 1968. He married Sheryl Kato in 1986. His wife and children remember him as a loving & caring husband and father who encouraged them to pursue their goals. He was a witty and generous individual who loved the outdoors and exploring the Blue Ridge and Great Smokey Mountains with his wife Sheryl and little dog Tanner. He was dedicated to his family and love to be the jokester A celebration of his life is scheduled for Thursday July 28th at 11:00 am the Methodist Church in Whittier, NC, with a reception to follow at the home of Sheryl Franklin on Friday July 29th at Noon. Ben Bushyhead will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Cecil's life. Condolences can be sent to PO Box 334, Whittier, NC 28789. The family would like to thank the hospital staff for their care & dedication while taking care of Mr. Franklin during his time of need.
