Carroll Vaughn Singleton, 66, of Sylva, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, October 30, 2013 at the Charles George VA Center in Asheville. Carroll was born November 13, 1946 in Haywood County, NC. He was the son of the late William E. and Anna (Ray) Singleton. He was a member of White Oak Baptist Church. Carroll loved the outdoors, going hunting and fishing, planting flowers and trees but more than anything he loved helping and giving to others no matter what the need. Carroll served in the United States Army with 3 tours in Vietnam. He received the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device – CIB Medals, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, 3 Bronze Stars with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Vietnam Service Medal, Expert Qualification Badge with Rifle Bar, 2 Good Conduct Medals, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm and 3 Overseas Service Bars. He attained the rank of Sergeant in December 1970. Carroll was very proud to have served his country and be a Veteran. He was preceded in death by a brother Charles and sisters Jackie and Vickie.
He is survived by a sister- Judy Singleton of Sylva
Niece- Vicki Finn and her husband Ian and very special great niece McKinley Finn all of Lakeland, Fla.
He had a special little friend whom he loved, his dog Willis
Military Graveside Services will be held 10:00 am Saturday November 2 at Green Hill Cemetery in Waynesville conducted by Waynesville VFW 5202. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Carroll’s name to the Hospice Fund / Charles George VAMC, 1100 Tunnel Rd, Asheville, NC 28805.
