Carnell William Ammons, age 70, of Tuckasegee died Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at Mission Hospital of Asheville, NC. Mr. Ammons was born August 22, 1945 in Jackson County, NC. He is the son of the late Wiley Don and the late Otelia (Ashe) Ammons. In addition to his parents he was predeceased in death by a brother Asbury Clifford Ammons, and sister, Mary Jo Harris.
He served in the Army. He was worked as a heavy equipment operator. He obtained his associate degree in surveying from Southwestern Community College.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Kay (Prince) Ammons; two sons, Aaron Carnell (Olivia) and John Brent (Natalie) Ammons; two grandchildren, Cooper William, and Reese Olivia; and two sisters Helen (Mike) Bryson and Kathleen Ensley. Carnell loved hunting, running dogs, guns, and dancing as a member of a clogging team. He was a member and deacon of Oak Ridge Baptist Church, and loved singing Gospel music. He loved his grandchildren, and was always ready and willing to lend a hand to help friends who needed help.
The funeral will be held 3:00 pm on Tuesday, January 26 at Appalachian Funeral Services, 165 Skyland Drive, Sylva, NC. Burial will follow in MIddleton Cemetery, Tuckasegee. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, 2 hours prior to service at the funeral home. .
