Carlyn Jeanne Collins Hewitt was born August 8, 1927 to Carrie Mae and Roland Anthony Collins in Washington. D.C. She spent most of her childhood in Alexandria, VA and graduated from George Washington High School in 1944. She married Francis O. Hewitt on October 17, 1946. He died in January 1979. Surviving are three children; Carole Ann Madden and husband Roger of Tallahassee, Florida, Stephen Hewitt of the Pumpkintown Community and Mary Hicks of Sylva, North Carolina. One sister also survives; Florence Gorham of Manassas, Virginia and a special friend; Deborah Meteraud of Clearwater, Florida. Mrs. Hewitt retired from banking in 1988 and moved to Sylva, NC where she became active in the Golden Age Senior Center, Home delivered meals and Harris Regional Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Shop. She is survived by seven grandchildren; John Mitchell of Arlington, VA, Carlyn Madden and husband Brian Johnson of Washington, DC, Jed Hewitt of Waycross, GA, Seth Hewitt of Asheville, NC, Frances Hicks of Balsam, NC, Jonathan Hicks of Seneca, SC and Adam Hicks of Sylva, NC. Seven great grandchildren and one great great grandchild also survive. Services will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Appalachian Funeral Services Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
