CARLIN THOMAS CABE, 90, went home to be with His Lord on July 24, 2014. Born October 30, 1923 to Ottis and Victoria Hall Cabe, he spent most of his life on the family land on East Fork. Carlin graduated from Webster High School in 1942, working briefly before joining the Marine Corps. He served in the Pacific Theater during WWII and was employed at Dayco for 35 years. He was proud to be say, "Once a Marine, Always a Marine" – Semper Fi.
He committed his life to Christ at a revival at the old East Fork Baptist Church and was a faithful member, deacon and choir member. He married Alice Hoyle in 1946 and raised his family on East Fork. He and Alice loved gospel music, camping, and attending ballgames. They were chosen by the Jackson County Athletic Hall of Fame as Patrons of the Years. He was a hard worker and loved his family, community and his heritage, but most of all he loved the Lord. His home was your home; his home-grown vegetables your vegetables; his dry wit and ability to "spin a yarn" were comfort to all that came in contact with him. These memories will live on in our hearts forever.
Carlin was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, a sister, Helen Cabe Gaither, and brothers Winston, Marvin and Daughtry Cabe, and two sons-in-law Jimmy Adams and Jimmy Gibson.
Surviving are his children Karen Gibson, Steve Cabe and wife Dianne, Susan Adams and Carleen Cabe Parham and husband Charles. Seven grandchildren and Eight Great-grandchildren also survived. Surviving siblings Lillian Cabe Morris of Brevard and Dempsey Cabe of Troy, MI.
The family will receive friends at Appalachian Funeral Home on Saturday, July 26 from 6-8 pm. Services will be held at the East Fork Baptist Church on Sunday, July 27 at 2:00 with viewing 30 min. prior to service. The burial will be in the church cemetery with military rights.
