Carl Buchanan

Carl Buchanan, age 82 of Whittier NC, passed away on Saturday December 11, 2021. He was born on June 14, 1939, in Jackson County, to the late Cashes and Alene (Harris) Buchanan. Carl was the founder and president of Buchanan and Sons Inc, a local construction company. As a contractor, Carl formed a reputation for being hard-working, honest, and loyal. In his free time, he enjoyed woodworking, refinishing furniture, building Legos, and spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed maintaining his yard alongside his grandsons, then later admiring the work while sharing life stories on the porch. He will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Alice (Franks); children, Donna Byrd (Ben), Vicki Lynn Walk (Dennis), Mark Anthony Buchanan, Carl Sam Buchanan Jr. (Stacey), Christopher Shane Buchanan (Emily); sisters, Mildred Monteith (Junior), Kate Stone (Major); 14 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Ginnie Sue Buchanan; siblings, Jimmie Buchanan (Betty), Lucille Turpin (Allison), and Lillian Hahlbeck (Warren). The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00PM on Thursday, December 16, 2021, at Wilmot Baptist Church, 2029 Thomas Valley Rd Whittier, NC, with a Funeral Service at 2:00PM. Rev. Johnny Ray Davis, officiating. Interment will follow at Bumgarner Cemetery.
